Maritza, her music and guitars
Growing up in South Africa with her zoologist mother, Maritza spend a lot of time in the African bush. However, this talented young lady aspired to be a female martial art champion. Although a senior black belt karateka, winning numerous national martial art championships, Maritza fell in love with guitar music while at university and never looked back.
While at university, Maritza was introduced to the guitar playing of rock queen, Lita Ford, and decided that is what she wants to do - play guitar! She bought her first electric guitar and started practising (a lot). Inspired by guitarists like Yngwe Maamsting, Jason Becker, Steve Vie, Joe Bonamassa, Mark Trimonti, Maritza soon found herself composing her own music.
Although the electric guitar is Maritza's first love, this young lady is also a black belt karateka and a very talented filmaker. She has a university degree in Audiovisual Production Management and is presently the owner of UMBULI Productions.

"Live your life, be free". Life is too short not to live it but be kind! I love music, martial arts, filmmaking, photography, wildlife, camping, philosophy and many other things. I have studied Audio Visual Production Management and enjoy directing, doing camera work and editing . I also play electric guitar which I am very passionate about. Wildlife is another one of my interests. We tend to forget that we are part of something grander than anything we can even begin to imagine. Most of us do not understand the importance of preserving the planet we live on as we do not even know or understand ourselves. How will we understand any other living creature when we do not even know who we are or spend time trying to find out. To me martial arts is an amazing aid in the process of self discovery and personal growth. The philosophy behind many martial arts is quite extraordinary. This I have learned by studying martial arts for more than 10 years.

I love to play a variety of music genres from rock, blues, and metal to neo-classical guitar as I do not like to restrict myself to only one style.
Although I love a HUGE variety of music to play and listen to, the guitar music I compose is often classified as Neo-classical rock/metal. I love this genre of music since it is very challenging to play on the guitar, requires a high level of technical playing ability and is so powerful, energetic and full of life!
Neo-classical metal is a subgenre of heavy metal that is heavily influenced by classical music and usually features very technical playing, consisting of elements borrowed from both classical and heavy metal music.
Deep Purple pioneered the sub-genre, while Yngwie Malmsteen is the most notable musician in the sub-genre. Other notable guitar players in the genre are Jason Becker, Tony McAlpine, Vinnie Moore, and Timo Tolkki.
